Episode 53 – Nukes, Radiation, And Burns

A much-ignored explosion at an Iranian nuclear site last December may have heralded Iran’s entrance into the world’s nuclear club. Iran has been enriching uranium for years, and it may finally have developed nuclear bombs. I believe this is the case, and Iran is probably making smaller nuclear bombs like what was exploded in early December. Small nuclear bombs can be hiked in backpacks into enemy countries and detonated.

This was all hypothesized in my book EMP NYC, and it looks as if it may be coming true.

A small (2 kiloton) nuclear bomb can be used to do all kinds of damage, like destroying bridges, buildings, and stadiums full of people. But a few miles away, people are not so threatened, as was shown in this test by Army volunteers who, in 1957, stood 3 miles beneath a 2 kiloton nuclear explosion. If they had had any electronics with them, the electronics would have been fried by an EMP, but they were not physically harmed.

Still, despite the media blackout on the explosion in Iran, it is time to stock up on radiation pills, radiation detection equipment, and items that can help in case of skin burns.

Here are some great pills to have on hand in case you are downwind of a nuclear explosion, in danger of getting exposed to radioactive fallout. Right now these pills are cheap and plentiful. Dosage info comes with the pills.

A dosimeter is important to measure your accumulated radiation. Here is the link to a combination dosimeter / geiger counter, but at $130 it is a bit pricey. Here is the link to a less-expensive credit-card size dosimeter that you can keep in your wallet.

Burns also accompany nuclear explosions, and I spent some time in the podcast discussing the usefulness of aloe vera plants and coconut oil.

Here is the link to an indoor aloe vera plant, available on Amazon for only $5. (Some states may not allow you to order these.) Aloe vera plants are great to have around to treat burns. Back in the old days these plants were kept in kitchens, to use for cooking burns.

Coconut oil is great to have around, not only to treat burns and moisturize skin, but also to use as an oil and butter substitute in cooking.  I mentioned some great deals on coconut oil that I found at Walmart and Costco, but here is a pretty good deal I found on coconut oil at Amazon.

Episode 46 – Sneak Preview Of My Next Post-Apoc Book

Included in this episode is an audio reading of chapter 2 of my still-in-progress post-apocalyptic book, tentatively entitled EMP 3. This book will probably be released next summer, and will join the earlier books in the “All At Once” series, which are entitled EMP: The End Of The Grid As We Know It and EMP NYC. At the end of today’s podcast I will have an announcement of a freebie.

These two fictional books join my other two non-fiction books on prepping, which are entitled Dirt Cheap Valuable Prepping, and Dirt Cheap Valuable Survival Retreat.

As you listen to the audio recording of chapter 2 of my next fictional book, keep in mind that, like my other fictional books, I include a lot of conflicts and survival lessons, but in unexpected ways and in unusual settings. This may be the only “when it happens” chapter of a post-apocalyptic book that takes place at an art auction in London.

This book will also tie together the stories of the various family members from the earlier books, and explain how the characters manage to survive and how they try to reunite. I think you will enjoy this book when it comes out.

Episode 37 – Brian Duff And Mind 4 Survival

In this episode I talk with Brian Duff, who has spent time as an Army Ranger, private military contractor, paramedic and international security director. Brian has produced a very-impressive podcast entitled Mind 4 Survival. When you aren’t focused intently on the podcast Survival In Motion, I encourage you to check out Mind 4 Survival. Brian Duff does what I try to do here: explore prepping topics that are out of the ordinary, and not already discussed everywhere else.

Stay tuned to the Mind 4 Survival website. Brian has some exciting plans to expand his content, including daily podcasts, YouTube offerings, and virtual training classes.

Episode 35 – Looking Ahead To 2020

In this episode I discuss two developing themes that are relevant to preppers in 2020: the end of prepper complacency, and the continued advancement of the “cancel culture,” which seeks to silence any opposing voices or opinions. The rationale of silencing dissenting opinions is that it is only safe, protects people, and keeps the peace. If you have not yet experienced it, it will come your way soon, so be prepared.

The Kindle version of my book, EMP NYC, will be free on Amazon for a few days, so check it out if you have not already gotten this exciting, post-apocalyptic book. The link to the Kindle version of EMP NYC is here.

Stay tuned for a third installment of this “All At Once” post-apocalyptic book series, which will probably be released towards the end of 2020.

And, speaking of books, check out Ray Fair’s book on predicting presidential elections. According to Professor Fair’s analysis, if the after-tax, after-inflation income of the average American voter increases beyond a certain point, the candidate of the incumbent party will win the presidential election. Professor Fair’s formula has a margin of error, so it is not guaranteed, but under his formula, President Trump will win re-election handily. Fair has a great track record for his prediction. The link to Professor Fair’s website is here and the link to his book is here.

Episode 32 – Prepping Basics

Do you know the prepping basics? We all seem caught up in our own various projects or emphases that have to do with prepping, but occasionally it is a good idea to step back and review the basic rules of prepping.

In this episode I go over many of the basics on prepping, including a few chestnuts from the prepping world, like “two is one and one is none.”  I discuss the basics of water, food, weapons, medicine, and many others. This was especially fun: at the end, I discuss the importance of getting a survival retreat in the country, with the added benefit that it could be a good real estate investment — then I provide a real life example!

According to ready.gov, this month is National Preparedness Month, so we all need to be good, obedient citizens and follow the government’s lead, and be prepared.

Episode 25 – Unusual Preps With Author Ron Foster

I had a wide-ranging conversation on unusual preps with prepper author Ron Foster.  Foster has published 62 prepping books (!), including his latest, Old Farts Survival Guide. This is a great book on prepping skills, and despite the $25 pricetag, it is well worth it and should be included in every serious prepper’s library. This book is also something you could leave on your living room coffee table, and because of the number of photos and diagrams in it, many of your family members will thumb through the book and quickly learn some prepping skills.

BE WATCHING FOR MY NEW POST-APOCALYPTIC FICTIONAL BOOK, EMP NYC, RELEASED SOON!

Episode 19 – Doctor And Dystopian Author Walt Browning

This was a great conversation I had with doctor and dystopian author, Walt Browning.  Browning has been a doctor in Florida for over 30 years, and has authored several post-apocalyptic books entitled the Charlie’s Requiem series, and a military adventure book, entitled The Book of Frank.  In this conversation, Browning and I discuss many topics, including antibiotics, ways to stop bleeding, dehydration, PTSD, Islamic terror, diseases, first aid kits, dogs, and guns.  We even discuss medical and dental tourism.

Check out Browning’s books on Amazon here, along with the books of his occasional co-authors and collaborators, Angery American and Nicholas Sansbury Smith.

During this interview, Browning and I refer to the following items / websites / books:

The Best Years Of Our Lives DVD.  This is one of Hollywood’s earlier attempts at discussing “shell shock,” now known as PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder)

Books for dog lovers: Racing In The Rain, and A Dog’s Purpose books

EMP: The End Of The Grid As We Know It book

Dirt Cheap Valuable Prepping book

Amazon 300-Piece First Aid Kit with cool carrying case for only $25!

Compression Bandages

Gauze With Clotting Agent

Trauma Kits: basic / intermediate / maybe too much but if you are totally serious about this stuff

Tourniquet With Holster

Facing Darkness DVD.  This is a gripping documentary about the Franklin Graham Ministry’s attempt to take on the Ebola outbreak in west Africa in 2014

Skinny Medic website (skinnymedic.com).  This looks great.  The website has useful medical stuff for sale and has links to some very helpful YouTube videos

The 15:17 To Paris DVD: this is a great movie, not only because it shows a terrorist getting his butt kicked, but the movie also shows how USAF Airman Spencer Stone stops the bleeding of someone on the Paris-bound train who had been shot in the neck.  This disc also shows actual news footage of Spencer and his friends being awarded medals during their vacation to France.

Where There Is No Doctor book (updated in 2015)

Watch for Browning’s new book releases, and the re-release of “Lost Valley” book, which was an Amazon Kindle World book until Amazon discontinued the Kindle World program.

Episode 17 – Sneak Preview Of New Post-Apoc Book

I this episode I discuss my previous post-apocalyptic book, entitled EMP: The End Of The Grid As We Know It, available at Amazon at this link here, and the sequel to it, which is coming out soon.  I discuss some of the challenges I had in writing both books, including not making an end of the world book too graphic.

Then I include a reading of parts of the sequel book, which will be released late summer or early fall.  The setting in the part of the book included in this reading is this: it has been three days since the EMP attack on New York City, and the protagonist, David, has decided to stay in town and help out (I advise against this, BTW).  David works for the New York City Office of Emergency Management, and he is working on clearing the stalled cars from the Brooklyn Bridge so that food can be brought in from Long Island to feed the people of Manhattan.

At the end of the reading of part of the sequel book, I have an announcement about something I will be giving away soon, available for a limited time.

Episode 4 – North Korea Concerns

Is the world on the brink of a nuclear war on the Korean peninsula?  Possibly, but a nuclear exchange might not even be the worst of it.  In this episode, I give a very sobering assessment of the possibility of a nuclear exchange with North Korea, the possibility of EMP attack, the possibility of chemical / nerve gas attacks, radiation / fallout concerns for Americans, and even a conventional attack on the city of Seoul, South Korea.  Sadly, the outcome could mean millions of people dead, pretty quickly.

Some products discussed in this episode:

EMP: The End Of The Grid As We Know It

Iosat Potassium Iodide pills (130 mg, 14 tablets)

The Rock DVD

Song of Sarin, by Stew Magnuson

Personal Radiation Detector (wallet-size)

RADEX RD 1503+ Dosimeter / Geiger Counter
